The most common reasons why children dehydrate are:
- Fever is the most common reason why babies and toddlers dehydrate
- Overheating is the second most common cause of dehydration in babies and toddlers because of sweating excessively in hot environments with too many layers of clothing on.
- Vomiting and diarrhoea is the main cause of dehydration in toddlers and children.
- Rejecting drinks and breastfeeding is a common cause of dehydration in children of all ages because of factors such as teething, thrush, sore throat, or a cold.
