What are the risks of dehydration when pregnant?

40 views 0

It is no surprise that a mother’s health during pregnancy have an influence on the foetus. Through the first couple of months of the pregnancy there are two significant concerns relating to dehydration. For the mother it is to remain hydrated. Having to deal with morning sickness is the main reason for becoming dehydrated. Dehydration causes more nausea and it evolves in a vicious circle that will require hospitalisation and hydration via an IV drip.

The main concern regarding dehydration and the unborn baby in the first four months is the lack of amniotic fluid. This means that the foetus is not able to float in the amniotic fluid, but instead lay against the uterus. This can cause restrained growth or disfigurements of the feet, legs, and or arms.
